I’m about to start making the website for LoveLace – Urban Fiction 2.0. And while I was researching images of lace, the look and feel of it and the qualities of the material.. how I might want to design the pages and the interaction.. looking for inspiration! I came across this: Lace Fence … Metal fabric (most awesome). “The material was originally designed as a high-end metal fabric that gives new insights in how we can create unique environments. The design, quality and density of the patterns are flexible. Meaning that for each application we create according to its function. For example to prevent climbing on, to hide or enhance its surroundings. To deal with harsh weather or to give an unique custom made look.”
I’m very drawn to Lace Fence. What beautiful inspiration for street art… The idea is so simple and so aesthetically pleasing. When I look at the photo-documentation, I can imagine a list of fences around the inner city where this would fit right in.
It seems like this company does it as sort of council paid murals, like contracted graff walls, but I see the potential to make this something that says so much more. Next step, need to by a good pair of wire cutters for testing!!

Re-igniting the spark and research for project development for the second half of the year…
I’ve decided to make something this year – as with Honours in 2010 and Jeu Kumite (for which I am still cleaning up my documentation and presentation), I want to develop a new media work and hopefully collaborate with a Sound Designer to make something relevant to both of our interests. We don’t really know what we want to make yet.. we have decided to do it.
As a result, I would like to declare the passing of “Physonic Explorations”, the name of this blog until now. ‘Physonic Explorations’ was born our of its predecessor ‘See-Saw Theory’. And I would like to pronounce the (re)birth of this documentation blog as ‘Savvy Lash’.
In reflection of Jeu Kumite, there are so many things I would like to improve and change after having performed the work twice. I feel like the final performance was strong, however, unfinished. My goals for this next project will be to produce and finished work – in all aspects of it’s application and creation.

… Steve Jobs has mentioned Norio Ogha as a great inspiration as they shared the belief that to create true technological innovation you need a mix of technology and liberal arts. Jobs and Ogha knew that by exploring and going out of your comfort zone creates the most open and curious minds. Working with people that constantly question themselves and have different perspectives and new insights allows you to go beyond the obvious, to think outside the box, if you will….

High tech tracking device for Olympic success
The latest weapon in Australian athletes’ training arsenal has just been added thanks to a new collaboration announced today by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and the CSIRO.
In a world first, a mobile radio transmitter attached to an athlete or equipment can track their every move. The information is instantaneously sent back to the coach via a wireless network, enabling monitoring of an athlete’s location, speed and position relative to other athletes….

I guess for the show, I’m thinking there is an underlying track that we spoke about, and yes i agree that a drum loop would hold it much nicer together, and be more musical, more performative etc. There is a good example of a “heart-beaty” sort of loop in the “LXD Teaser Choises HD” file at 0:37, also around 3:33 in “Mortal Engine by Chunky Move”.
The track should be muffled sounds, humming of electric generator, whales(?), sliding electric guitar strings, repeating cd, static, distortion, airplane flying(?)…
I really like the sound around 1:30 of “Mortal Engine”…
The work/ space should start ’empty’ sounding, because the karate-ka will be performing a kata first. After around 30-45 seconds, the intensity will start to grow, the room will start to ‘crack’ more, and it will be as though these cracks are allowing the space to fill with more sound…
As the performers fight each other, the intensity rises and falls – all of this can be pre-recorded in the underlying track.
Finally, at the end of the performance (around 5-6 minutes) the sound of the space will be similar to the start, almost as though the cracks have frozen over, or coalesce together, emptying the space of sound again, or perhaps blocking it off from intruding.
The sensors will affect sound ‘above’ the din of the room.. e.g. muffled horns(?), or strings… maybe you have a better idea?? –> i have to look more into the parameters I want to affect. A good example of the interference of the sounds that are connected to the performers is at 1:56 on “The LXD Teaser Choices”. “Cut-off” can that be a parameter?
